My final finish of 2024 is this beautiful Hexibore quilt. I got it back from Mindy Powell, who did the beautiful custom quilting on it, in mid-December, but I was knee deep in Christmas sewing. I got all my Christmas sewing wrapped up a few days before Christmas, but then I needed to dive into a pattern test I had been selected for, so my quilt had to wait a few more days. I finally got to bind this quilt on December 30, and luckily, I had the binding all ready to go so I could finish it up quickly.
This is my second Hexibore quilt, which was designed and taught workshop-style by Jenny Haynes. She gives so much great information about matching points that it's very doable to end up with a very precisely pieced top, and it's so lovely and graphic with such large pieces that it doesn't actually take very long to piece. Which is good, and bad...I have altogether too many quilts and should probably slow down. So for this year, I'll be going for quality...I have a few intricate quilts in mind, so that'll help me slow down my quilty acquisition a bit.
Back to this quilt... I saw a couple of the six petal versions that had more floral coloring, including a pink/purple one similar to mine, and I really loved how floral and feminine it looked. I spent months trying to nail down the perfect colors, and I really love the ones I picked. This blue is just such a perfect blue, and the pinks that lean slightly toward coral...just love. I backed it with a coral minky and I've already had a kid claim it.
I named this quilt Efflorescent Explosion because I wanted to name it something florally but I couldn't think of anything I liked. So I looked up synonyms for floral and efflorescent showed up and I thought the alliteration worked. I'm terrible at naming quilts. *shrug*
