This year has flown by. I was trying to explain to my kids (futile, I know) that this time is really so short and so fast. I think they do feel it a little bit, as they return to school in only about a month and they are not ready! But they do not understand really how fast time flies.
Last time I posted, I shared my Delicate Arch quilt. Since then, I have finished only two more quilts, but several more projects, included a few bags and some apparel. The first quilt I finished was my Passages quilt. I made this quilt with two main purposes: first was to have a quilt I was ready to gift at a moment's notice. We had a neighbor tragically lose their young adult son suddenly a few months back and I was so sad I didn't have a quilt ready to be given. So I made a quilt ready to go for the next tragedy, which will hopefully be a long time from now. Because the purpose was to be an uplifting gift, I tried to pick generic colors that were cheerful. I'm not sure how successful it was, but that was the goal.
The second purpose was to self-test my very first written pattern. I took Alderwood Studio's Pattern Writing Academy and used this as my project. Since it's a pretty basic pattern, it was a great one to practice on and I reasoned I could use it as an email list builder without feeling like I had spent too much time on writing it. I haven't yet launched a pattern writing business, and I still feel torn about it. Do I want to turn a beloved hobby into a business? Will that take away from the joy? Do I really want to have to learn how to deal with business finances and marketing? I feel like it could be a good source of passive income, but would it? Sigh. I feel like I *could* do it, I just need to decide if I *want* to do it.
In the meantime, the finished (but untested and unedited) pattern is sitting on my hard drive, waiting. Maybe I'll post it in an Etsy shop if I get a couple more pattens from quilts I've already designed pulled together.
